Bi-Lingual Courses
Tucson, AZ -- ThermalStar, a local company and a leader in Online Building Performance Institute certification, has announced that they will now offer their online BPI preparation course with Spanish content and provide a bilingual mentor and written test proctor. "It is important to recognize the contributions made to the building community by native Spanish speakers. Our goal is to help ensure that they can continue to grow the industry by becoming certified by BPI," said Geary Morris, CEO.
BPI is a national standards development and credentialing organization for residential energy efficiency retrofit work. ThermalStar offers online preparation for BPI certification testing. With their new Spanish Language course content, ThermalStar is offering the native Spanish speaker or ESL building professional a path to certification that acknowledges their building expertise and interest in green building and helps overcome language difficulties. "We will provide a bilingual proctor to assist with translation and comprehension during the BPI test, which is currently only available in English. In addition, we have arranged for the Spanish speaker to have 3 hours, when taking the test to give adequate time to provide translation assistance," Morris continued. ThermalStar will also coordinate the Equipment Training and Field Test in their regional areas, for enrollees when the online portion of certification is completed.
The ThermalStar courses prepare successful candidates to perform field inspections, building diagnostics, advise on scope of work and retrofit measures for energy savings and perform post remediation inspections. The class includes instruction on using Blower Door systems, pressure pan duct testing, gas leak detectors and combustion analyzers. All equipment needed for field training and testing activities is provided.
"Once BPI certification is earned, the door is opened to many job and business opportunities," Morris said. The skills learned during BPI certification can be used to detect air and energy leaks and potentially faulty equipment. Building Performance Institute
Certification Course Offered
Thermal Star Building Analyst Institute will hold Building Analyst classes that include building performance audit training and certification in Las Vegas starting on November 2. Certification is granted through the Building Performance Institute, Inc. “This is a growing field and certified analyst’s are in heavy demand. For example, Clark County requires all energy audits for any of the county’s low income weatherization programs be completed by a BPI certified analyst,” said Geary Morris, Thermal Star president.
The class includes complete instruction on using Flir infrared cameras, the Thermal Star Blower door system, duct tester, gas leak detector and combustion analyzer. Both classroom and field activities are included. All equipment needed for field activities is provided. “Once BPI certification is earned, the door is opened to many job and business opportunities,” Morris said.
A complete energy audit actually shows how many square inches of opening a home has. These openings can be anything from poorly sealed windows, to lack of weatherization strips on doors or areas that were not insulated during the building process. Buyers of existing homes are using these services to insure the home they buy is energy efficient. Sellers are using them to provide an edge in this competitive real estate market. “It is not that difficult to dramatically improve the energy efficiency of a home by simple means such as calking, adding insulation or making simple repairs,” Morris explained.
Additionally, the skills learned during BPI certification can be used to detect water leaks and even potential failure of equipment. “Graduate analysts are working for HVAC contractors, plumbers and manufacturers as well as working with the construction and real estate industries,” Morris concluded.
